Honoring the Elderly
Overview
Using the articles provided, this assignment provides students with the opportunity to read about elderly care in another country, then compare and contrast it to the United States.
Objectives
· Recognize the mental abilities that decline later in adulthood
· Describe cultural factors that affect normal aging.

Read the article from the Pew Research Global Attitudes Project Attitudes about Aging: A Global Perspective (link above)
Use one of the supplemental articles above (The Week, Cultural Views) to gain a perspective of how your assigned culture views its elderly adults (those ~60 and older):
· Last name M, assigned culture = Mediterranean/Latin
Assignment:
Write at least a 1 full-page paper in Apa format with a coversheet (paragraph form, double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pt font) and at the end add a citation site that includes the following:
1. Discuss in your own words the view of elderly adults in your assigned culture group.
2. Compare/contrast that view with the dominant view of the elderly in US culture (if you’re unaware of this view, read the “US & UK” view in THE WEEK article above).
3. How will this view affect the future elderly demographic in that culture for the better? For the worse? (Refer to Pew Research article above.)

DO NOT use other sources (for ex: do not look for more information on the internet!) Your paper will not pass!!! Be sure you have answered each question and explained your answers fully.
